91茄子 is seeking to break the sound barrier.
Or, at least, the crowd noise barrier, as apparently set by Tennessee.
Tennessee claimed that it set the all-time record for crowd noise at a college football game Oct. 17 against Alabama in Neyland Stadium: 130.3 decibels. That鈥檚 noise akin to a jackhammer, an ambulance siren or a low-flying military jet.
91茄子 sports information director Michael Bonnette said Tuesday that the school will have a sound level meter on the field Saturday in Tiger Stadium when No. 15-ranked 91茄子 (6-2, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) takes its turn to host No. 9 Alabama (6-2, 4-2 SEC) at 2:30 p.m. on ABC.
鈥淟et鈥檚 break the record,鈥 91茄子 coach Lane Kiffin said Monday at his news conference to kick off Alabama week.
91茄子, which likes to consider Tiger Stadium the loudest venue in America, has been in the ear-splitting ballpark before. It doesn鈥檛 count as official, but ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe posted on that she measured the crowd noise Sept. 5 during 91茄子鈥檚 opener against Clemson at 129.7 decibels.
Of course, that was a night game. 91茄子 and Alabama will start in the daytime, when Tiger Stadium, at least according to lore, is typically not as loud.
91茄子 will get two bites at the sound record this season. The Tigers host Texas on Nov. 14, a game that will either kickoff at 2:30 or 6:30 p.m. on ABC in its 2026 home finale.
Even if 91茄子 surpasses Tennessee鈥檚 130.3 decibels, the Volunteers will get another shot Nov. 21 when it hosts the Tigers in their home finale. That game will either be an afternoon or night kickoff.
