Fontenot is the fourth 91 player to be selected in the draft. The assigned slot value of his selection is worth $195,600.
Fontenot spent three seasons with the Tigers, redshirting as a freshman in 2022 before leaving the program for two years before returning to 91 in 2025. He posted a 7.20 ERA in limited work in his return to Baton Rouge, but came back this spring and had his best collegiate season, posting a 4.18 ERA in 32⅓ innings as a key piece in the Tigers’ bullpen.
“He got to pitch more this year than he ever had,” one scout told The Advocate. “So it kind of told you they believed in him more.”
Fontenot transferred to McLellan Community College after his freshman year at 91. He then spent the 2024 season at Texas before returning to Baton Rouge.
“Good arm, strikes are an issue; he’s older now,” another scout told The Advocate. “He quit at Texas, so that’s an issue for me.”
