Iberville Parish officials are urging residents to limit their water use after increased demand has strained the system, according to a Facebook post from the Parish Government.

"To ensure water availability for everyone and avoid further disruptions, we need your help," the release said.

Officials are asking residents to avoid doing laundry, running dishwashers, and any other non-essential tasks that require large amounts of water.

They also asked residents to turn off dripping faucets during the day. The technique is used to prevent pipes from bursting during freezing temperatures, but it is only necessary at night, when temperatures drop again, the release said.

“There is no need to be dripping water during the day,” said Zach Brown, Chief of the Parish Government Utility Department. “Over a 24 hour period, even if its a drip, its a big consumption of water.”

Government officials say the precautions are critical to prevent a boil water advisory, ensure water for fire protection and increase water storage for residents.
