The Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office identified 74-year old Rita Reulet as the victim of the fatal house fire early Sunday morning.

The fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. in a home on the 7900 block of Conrad Street. Livingston Parish Fire Department crews responded to the blaze.

A 77-year-old man was able to escape unharmed, the fire department said.

The home was equipped with working smoke alarms, which saved the man’s life, the fire marshal’s office said.

Initial findings indicate the fire began in the attached garage, but the exact cause has not yet been determined, the agency said. The possibility of the fire being caused by electrical issues has not been ruled out.
