A man wanted for causing a crash Saturday that killed two horses turned himself in to Louisiana State Police headquarters in Baton Rouge on Wednesday morning.

Carlo Phillips, 43, of Donaldsonville fled the scene after he crashed into the back of a trailer carrying horses, in a three-vehicle crash on La. 70, near the Sunshine Bridge in Ascension Parish, Trooper Shelby Mayfield, public affairs office for Troop A, said.

One horse was killed in the crash, and a vet was called to the scene to humanely put down a horse that was severely injured, Mayfield said.

Phillips was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of hit and run, careless operation, and driving under suspension.

The crash remains under investigation, State Police said.
