Seen from a security room, inmates mingle in a day room at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

A man was rebooked on an assault count after he allegedly stabbed another inmate multiple times in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, deputies say.

Jermaine Savoy, 26, was rebooked into the prison Wednesday on aggravated battery and possession of a concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies. Savoy was in prison awaiting trial on charges of second-degree murder, simple battery and disturbing the peace.

Corrections deputies reported that a stabbing had occurred in the dayroom of a housing area at the prison at about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 20. Savoy was seen covering his face with a T-shirt and stabbing the victim multiple times with a pointed metal object, according to the arrest affidavit. The victim was stabbed eight times in the face, head and body.

The injuries caused the victim to stay at the hospital for two days. After returning to the jail, he said that he warned deputies prior to being moved to the housing area to watch the cameras, as he didn’t feel safe. According to the arrest affidavit, the victim said he did not have gang ties, but his family members did, which caused him to receive multiple threats from inmates.

Savoy was arrested in February after he allegedly killed 37-year-old Joshua Phillips in October 2023. Phillips was found in the 2000 block of North Boulevard with multiple fatal injuries, including a stab wound in his leg.
