Lafayette City Marshal Reggie Thomas announced Thursday that he is seeking a second six-year term, saying he wants to continue expanding public safety initiatives and community programs.
Thomas, who took office in 2021, pointed to several accomplishments during his first term, including creating the Lafayette City Marshal's Office School Resource Officer Division and Park Patrol Division, expanding youth programs, investing in new technology and a dedicated training facility, and earning accreditation for the agency.
According to Thomas, the Lafayette City Marshal's Office is the only accredited marshal's office in Louisiana.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished together, but our work is far from over,” Thomas said in a statement. “The past six years have shown what can be achieved through strong leadership, accountability and a commitment to serving our community. Over the next six years, I want to continue investing in public safety, our deputies, our youth and the citizens of Lafayette.”
Thomas said his priorities for a second term include expanding community partnerships, strengthening school safety, growing youth mentorship programs and increasing training opportunities for deputies.
